Apr. 24, 2025 - POSCO Future M recorded consolidated revenue of 845.4 billion won and operating profit of 17.2 billion won in the first quarter.

The battery materials business posted revenue of 505.6 billion won, up 32.4% from the previous quarter, with operating profit turning positive at 2.4 billion won due to increased sales of cathode and anode materials.

For cathode materials, profitability improved with higher utilization rates resulting from increased sales volume and expanded sales of premium high-nickel cathode products. Anode material sales volumes also increased due to growing demand from customers seeking to diversify their supply chains.

The basic materials business recorded revenue of 339.8 billion won and operating profit of 14.8 billion won.

Refractory sales increased due to higher demand for steel process repairs, while the quicklime and chemical businesses improved profitability through production operation efficiencies and margin expansion from higher coal tar sales prices.

POSCO Future M also focuses on strengthening R&D capabilities and diversifying its product portfolio.

The company is developing new products, including high-voltage Mid-Ni, LMR, and LMFP cathode materials, targeting the entry market by organically linking with group research capabilities, including POSCO Holdings POSCO N.EX.T Hub, Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology (RIST), and POSTECH. For LFP cathode materials, the company is reviewing various commercialization options, including technical partnerships and joint ventures, in response to requests from multiple customers.

In anode materials, the company plans to secure a leading position in the global market by developing high-value-added products such as low-expansion natural graphite anodes and high-capacity silicon-carbon composite (Si-C) anode materials.
